According Lotus records Carroll Shelby WAS going to sell a 4-Wheel drive 16V Daytona for the 1989 model year- This car shown was featured in several magazines and press response was very favorable. As far back as late 1987 there were several prototype G-bodies in England undergoing advanced emissions, crash and NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) testing.  Alas Shelby and Chrysler parted company in 1989 and the 16V engine didn't make it into production till 1991.
